A paver patio is the centerpiece of a New Orleans backyard, and it is also the surface our climate punishes hardest. Build it on poured concrete and you get cracks and a slick mildew film within a couple of seasons. Build it the paver way, on an engineered base with real drainage, and you get an outdoor living space that holds level for decades and lifts and resets if it ever needs work.

Why pavers beat poured concrete here

New Orleans sits on soft alluvial delta soil with a high water table. Concrete is one rigid sheet, so when the ground moves underneath it, the slab cracks and there is no fixing it short of a tear-out. Interlocking pavers are individual units set on a flexible compacted base. They move with the ground instead of fighting it, they shed water through the joints instead of pooling, and a single settled paver lifts and resets in an afternoon. That is the difference between a patio you replace and a patio you keep.

How we build a paver patio

The part you never see is the part that lasts. Our process puts the engineering first.

  • Excavate and grade. We dig to the right depth and set a slope that carries water away from your home, not toward it.
  • Compacted base. Layered and compacted crushed stone, with geotextile fabric where the soil calls for it, so the patio has a stable foundation.
  • Bedding and edge restraints. A screeded sand-set bedding layer plus locked edge restraints keep pavers from spreading or shifting.
  • Lay and cut. Pavers set in your chosen pattern, cut clean at the borders.
  • Joint stabilization. Polymeric sand locks the joints against weeds, ants, and washout.

Paver options

We install concrete pavers, clay brick pavers, and large-format slabs from manufacturers built for the Gulf South. You choose the color, texture, and pattern (running bond, herringbone, basketweave, or a custom border), and we match it to your home and the rest of your hardscape.

Pairs well with

Most patios are part of a bigger outdoor plan. We tie them into walkways and pathways, frame raised areas with retaining walls, and build in outdoor kitchens and fire features. If drainage is the real problem, start with drainage and grading.

Serving the New Orleans metro

Paver patio questions, answered

How long does a paver patio take to install?

Most residential patios take 3 to 6 working days, depending on size, access, and drainage work. We give you a firm window in the written estimate.

Will weeds grow between the pavers?

We lock the joints with polymeric sand, which hardens to resist weeds, ants, and washout. With normal upkeep your joints stay clean for years.

What happens if a paver settles later?

That is the advantage of pavers. We lift the affected pavers, correct the base, and reset them. No tear-out, and the repair is nearly invisible.

Do you pull permits?

Yes. Where your parish requires a permit, we handle it as part of the job so you are never exposed.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does paver patios cost in New Orleans?

Pricing depends on the size of the area, the paver you choose, and the base and drainage the site needs. Soft delta soil usually calls for a deeper compacted base than other parts of the country, and we price that into a written estimate before any work starts.

How long does the project take?

Most residential projects run three to five working days once we start: excavation and base prep, edge restraints, laying the pavers, and locking the joints. Larger scopes with walls, drainage, or an outdoor kitchen take longer, and we give you a firm timeline with your estimate.

Why pavers instead of poured concrete?

Our ground moves. A rigid slab cracks when the soil shifts and has to be torn out whole to repair. Interlocking pavers flex with the ground, let water through the joints, and a settled section resets in an afternoon.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Big Easy Paver Patios is a licensed and insured Louisiana contractor. We pull the permits your parish requires and put the full scope in writing, so there are no surprises mid-project.
