How we build it

• Pour or compact a stable footing that will not settle on soft delta soil
• Stack and bond fire-rated block or stone, with a steel or refractory liner where the design needs one
• Cap in paver coping or natural stone that matches your patio
• Run a gas line and ignition for gas units, or finish a clean wood-burning bowl with proper airflow
• Set drainage so rain sheds off the feature and away from seating
