Our climate is hard on outdoor surfaces. Months of heat, soaking humidity, and heavy rain feed mildew in the joints, lift sand out of the seams, and slowly wash the color out of unprotected pavers. None of that is salt; the Gulf is 40 plus miles off and Lake Pontchartrain is brackish. The real drivers here are moisture, UV, and organic growth. A clean, re-sanded, sealed paver surface shrugs all of it off, and we keep yours that way.

Why sealing matters on our pavers

Sealing does two jobs at once. It puts a protective layer over the paver face that blocks UV fading and stops oil, grease, and tannin stains from soaking in. And it stabilizes the joints, so the sand stays put instead of washing out in the next downpour. Skip it, and you get faded color, loose joints, weeds and ants moving into the gaps, and a slick film of mildew every wet season. Sealed pavers stay truer to their original color and stay locked together far longer.

Our cleaning and sealing process

  • Deep clean the whole surface to strip mildew, dirt, and old organic buildup from the paver face and joints
  • Treat any moss, algae, or mildew at the root so it does not come straight back in our humidity
  • Re-sand the joints with polymeric sand, which hardens to lock the pavers and block weeds and ants
  • Let everything dry fully, because sealing over trapped moisture causes a cloudy, blotchy finish
  • Apply a quality paver sealer, matte or wet-look to your preference, evenly across the field

What sealing protects you from

  • Color fade: our intense UV bleaches unsealed pavers over a few seasons; sealer holds the color
  • Stains: a sealed surface keeps oil, grill grease, and leaf tannins on top where they wipe away
  • Loose joints: re-sanding plus sealer keeps sand from washing out in heavy rain
  • Weeds and ants: hardened joints leave nowhere for seeds to root or colonies to nest
  • Mildew: a sealed, treated surface is far easier to rinse clean and slower to regrow

Pairs well with

Maintenance often turns up bigger issues, and that is fine. If we find settled or lifted units, we handle that with paver repair and re-leveling before we seal. Sealing is also the natural last step on a fresh paver patio or paver driveway, locking in the work from day one. Ready to refresh your hardscape? Reach out and we will take a look.

Serving the New Orleans metro

We clean, re-sand, and seal pavers in New Orleans, Metairie, Kenner, River Ridge, Slidell, Covington, Mandeville, Madisonville, and Abita Springs.

How often should pavers be resealed?

In our climate, plan on every 2 to 3 years for most surfaces. Driveways and pool decks that take more sun, traffic, and water may want it a little sooner. We will tell you honestly where yours stand.

Will sealing make my pavers slippery?

Not if it is done right. We use sealers suited to walked-on surfaces and can add a grit additive for pool decks and steps, so you keep traction even when the surface is wet.

Can you fix mildew and weeds in the joints, or just seal over them?

We treat them first. Mildew gets cleaned and killed at the root, and we re-sand the joints with polymeric sand that hardens and blocks regrowth. Sealing over dirty, open joints just traps the problem, so we never do that.

Do I need new pavers or just a reseal?

Usually just a clean and reseal. If we spot units that have settled, sunk, or lifted, we re-level them first so the finished surface is even and the seal lasts. You only replace pavers if some are cracked or badly damaged.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does paver sealing & maintenance cost in New Orleans?

Pricing depends on the size of the area, the paver you choose, and the base and drainage the site needs. Soft delta soil usually calls for a deeper compacted base than other parts of the country, and we price that into a written estimate before any work starts.

How long does the project take?

Most residential projects run three to five working days once we start: excavation and base prep, edge restraints, laying the pavers, and locking the joints. Larger scopes with walls, drainage, or an outdoor kitchen take longer, and we give you a firm timeline with your estimate.

Why pavers instead of poured concrete?

Our ground moves. A rigid slab cracks when the soil shifts and has to be torn out whole to repair. Interlocking pavers flex with the ground, let water through the joints, and a settled section resets in an afternoon.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Big Easy Paver Patios is a licensed and insured Louisiana contractor. We pull the permits your parish requires and put the full scope in writing, so there are no surprises mid-project.
