Sandy loam drains well but can shift under load and during flooding, so we compact the subgrade, build an angular crushed-stone base that interlocks, and set strong edge restraint so pavers hold their line. In low areas we detail the base to shed water quickly and resist scour if surge moves across it.

Heavy rain and humidity age Northshore hardscapes far more than anything coastal. Slidell sits in Zone 9a, slightly cooler than the south shore, so we account for the occasional harder freeze in our joint and base details, but the bigger variable in the low neighborhoods is always the water.
